The Inside Story Behind WorshipWhereverIn May of 2006 we were linking arms with A.C.T. International (Artists in Christian Testimony, Int'l), our ministry partner in much of what we do as “musicianaries”. We were in Nashville for a 3-day orientation, getting to know their organization and the many artistic ministers who partner with them. On the final day of orientation, Jeremiah was in the “hotseat”- it goes like this- one person is in the middle of the room in a chair and the rest of the crowd gathers around and takes turns praying for the one in the chair. It’s an awesome position to be in- to hear the prayers of others lifting up your ministry. It was Max’s turn to pray- Max was an 11-year-old with a family of artists/counselors who were from South Africa. As Max prayed, he said, “God is giving me a picture for you right now”… and proceeded to describe this picture that God had put in his head. He said, “You are sitting in a studio, playing your guitar, and in front of you on the wall is a world map- all black. As you play your guitar, these notes of gold are flying from your guitar and landing on different places on the world map, turning those places from black to gold.”…. now, come on- what were we supposed to do with that? It sounded awesome, but we had no context to understand it, so we just tucked it away and waited. About a month and a half later, we were leading worship back in Indiana for a gathering of missionaries from all over the world, gathered together for a week of refreshing. After one of our worship times, one man made a beeline for us and began pleading with us- “this kind of worship-leading- this is exactly what we’re dying for out there on the field! We’re sending teams all over the world who have no good resource for worship times, and they’re dying for this.” Just then we remembered Max’s prayer and his picture, and it made perfect sense. Go into the studio, and produce a resource for worship leading that will be taken all over the world and be a part of bringing light to dark places. So that’s what we did. It was such an experience, gathering in a circle, praying as we began, then pressing “record”, and leading worship for people who weren’t there yet- most of whom we’ll never meet, in places we may never go! This project has certainly been one of lots of brainstorming and praying and trial and error, and through consistently sensing the leading of God and His hand on this, we are thrilled to offer you “WorshipWherever”. May it be a blessing, and may your group come alive as you worship the Savior. |
